Paid leave only  20days..  Annual paid leave and other statutory leave entitlements.

After 6 months of continuous service with at least 80% attendance, an employee earns 10 days of annual paid leave. The entitlement rises with service to a maximum of 20 days at 6.5 years, and part-time workers receive pro-rated days. Unused leave carries over for 2 years. For employees granted 10 or more days, the employer must ensure at least 5 days are actually taken within the year.

This has a practical consequence for a 6–12 month assignment. Whether service with the home company counts toward the 6-month threshold depends on how the assignment is structured. If the Japanese entity becomes the employer and prior service is not recognized, the assignee may not earn any statutory leave until month 6. Many companies address this contractually by granting leave from day one.

Other statutory leave includes maternity leave (6 weeks before and 8 weeks after childbirth; 14 weeks before for multiple births) and childcare leave until the child turns 1, extendable to 2. There is also postnatal paternity leave of up to 4 weeks within 8 weeks of birth, family care leave of up to 93 days per family member, and sick-child and family-care days of 5 days per year (10 for two or more). Menstrual leave and time off for civic duties are also protected. These leaves are generally unpaid under the LSA, with income replacement available through employment insurance where eligible. Sick leave and bereavement leave are not statutory and depend on company rules.
